Honestly, I feel like this was a situation where the entire production was disconnected from each other. Honestly, the "twist/emotional scene" near the end lacked power not particularly because of any acting issues, but that I didn't feel enough build up in the characters' relationship to be invested in the story. Some of the transitions, character introductions, and plot points were confusing. The beginning of the film was pretty hilarious, but the plot/direction kind of disintegrated from there. However, I heard that the novel spans 8 volumes! So, I didn't know what to expect plot-wise (I mean, how do you fit that much plot into less than two hours?).

I watched this movie because I loved Xiao Zhan in The Untamed, and he was one of the lead actors in this film. He is just so relatable and his emotions so genuine and clear you can't help feel empathy with him and root for him! I'm so hoping there be a Jade Dynasty two so we can follow thus character through further adventures! I hope they make a movie out of the game Xiao Zhan is the spokesperson for as well! Any one who ever sees Xiao Zhan play a role once will never forget and will wait to find more to immerse themselves in and if haven't discovered the world of wuxian costumes dramas or you just like fantasy and a beautiful fun adventurous show that will hold your interest make sure you watch it! You'll really enjoy it and become a Xiao Zhan fan! This character was both uniquely different than his character in "The Untamed" but also had all the wonderful elements I've come to associate with Xiao Zhan. I love the fantasy elements of this show, the humor but mostly I love to See Xiao Zhan battling against more obstacles. I also can not get enough of that dazzling bright smile that can melt my heart one minute and bring in the sun with its pure light the next. "The Untamed" was sooooooo good in so many ways I never imagined or expected that I could not wait to see something else with him in just to see if was that addictively cute and adventurous in everything or just in "The Untamed". I don't know about others, as for me, I'm going to be looking forward for the second part if they are planning to make it.Īfter seeing "The Untamed" I became a fan of costume dramas but also a devoted fan of Xiao Zhans and went searching for more things in it. Even if it isn't your taste, I think at least, it's going to be worth a watch. But what I can tell you is that the plot of this film is not that bad, the acting is quite good and the special effects used are fine. All in all, I rarely watch around 2 hours run-time Chinese films. So, even it's not that serious, but it's still watchable and I enjoyed it a lot. That being said, comedy is sometimes necessary. But as for the one who loves to watch more serious films, I'd say this one is not that much serious. I thought the film was going to be serious.
Furthermore, they didn't explain who killed Zhang Xiaofan's the whole villagers.
And also, when the film's finished, I found some of the facts are missing and I feel like it's not complete one. I wonder how and why did they give such an English title? Talking about title, the title says Zhu Xian 1. In the other words, those two titles are completely opposite. "Jade Dynasty" doesn't have anything to do with the word "Zhu Xian". The only thing I don't understand is the English title. That being said, there is something not smooth that can be seen in the special effects. The story is quite good and the special effects are good too. But when the film reached the middle, I found out that it wasn't that bad. I only watched it because it has Xiao Zhan. Before I watched, I didn't have that much high hope. After I watched Chen Qing Ling (The Untamed), I found that Xiao Zhan was also in this film, so, I've been waiting a long time for this one to come out.
